We are pleased to welcome you to the brand-new North Carthage Baptist Church Web site. We decided to forego special effects and chose to use just enough technology to deliver our message. Our simple, clean design should allow you to find the information you need with ease and speed. You will find much of the content that you have used the site for in the past, in addition to many new features that are online now, or are in stages of development, and will be made available to you soon.
We have tried to anticipate "how you might think" as you look for relevant information on the site, and structure our menus around that; the most sought-for information has been placed in menus where it should be most convenient for you to find it.  No matter where you go on the site, you will see the same familiar navigation bar at the top. You will find navigation links at the bottom of each page for your convenience.
We continue to work with new Technology to make our site a tool intended for carrying out the Great Commission spreading the gospel to the lost where on earth they might be.

About Us

Located in Carthage Tennessee on Carmack Avenue the North Carthage Baptist Church is a saved by grace Baptist Church. We believe that once a person shares a salvation experience his/her first duty is to join with the Lord's church, be baptized, and begin to live a life that reflects the new creature he/she now aspires too as described in 2 Corinthians Chapter 5:17 . All saved people contemplating church membership are encouraged to review the Articles of Faith and Church Ordinances before presenting them self for membership consideration. The Lord's church can only prevail over the powers of sin when its membership is united in a spirit of love and cooperation. Once church membership is established a person is compelled to support their church with aid and service. Service in the Lord's church is a honor and a privilege that can only be enjoyed by the true children of God. All church members are considered equal and account for one vote in church business affairs and membership elections no matter their age, gender, race or social standing. A church member may use their talent to further the cause of Christ putting into action the missionary spirit first demonstrated by Jesus Christ and later by his disciples in carrying out the Great Commission as portrayed in words of Matt. 28:19.

History

On the 13th day of January in 1954, a tract of land on Carmack Ave. in Carthage was purchased by Elder R. D. Brooks for the purpose of establishing an old fashioned place of worship for those of Missionary Baptist persuasion who lived in and around the area. His desire was that a place be provided for those who still believed in sinners making way to an altar for prayer and supplication until peace with the Lord was found. Thus construction of a building was begun March 1, 1954 and upon completion the opening service was help on October 4, 1954. Members of the South Carthage Baptist Church were instrumental and primarily responsible for organizing a Sunday School which had 38 people in attendance on the first Sunday. Today, we usually have over 100 people in regular attendance.

CHURCH COVENANT

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the LORD Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this Church, in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spreading of the Gospel through all nations. We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances, to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all talking, backbiting and excessive anger, to abstain from the sale and use of Intoxicating drink as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior. We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love, to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress, to cultivate Christian sympathy in felling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offence, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior, to ensure it without delay. We moreover engage that, when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's word.

ARTICLES OF FAITH

1. We believe in the one only true and living God, and there are three persons in the Godhead the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.
2. We believe that the scriptures of the old and new testaments are the word of God and the only rules of faith and practice.
3. We believe in the doctrine of original sin and in man's impotence (inability) to recover himself from the fallen state he is in by nature, by his own free will and ability.
4. We believe that sinners are justified in the sight of God only by the imputed righteousness of Christ.
5. We believe that the saints will preserve in grace and never finally fall away.
6. We believe that baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances of Christ Jesus and that true believers are the only proper subjects thereof; and that the only proper mode of baptism is immersion.
7. We believe in the resurrection of the dead and general judgment.
8. We believe that the punishment of the wicked will be everlasting and the joys of the righteous eternal.
9. We believe that no minister has the right to the administration of the ordinances, only such as are regularly baptized and come under the imposition of hands by a presbyter.
10. We believe for a sinner to be saved, he must first be convicted of the sin of unbelief and brought to repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Missions

Here at the North Carthage Baptist Church, we are fortunate to have a congregation of members who believe that missionary work, when practiced as Christ intended, has enormous importance. We believe that the message of Christ is still good news for all people. As a local church, our mission begins by reaching out to the lost in our own community here in Smith County. However, Jesus' Great Commission makes it clear that our responsibility is not just to our own local needs, but extends to all nations around the world. (Matt 28:19) Our church has contributed to mission programs such as the Smith County Help Center, Words of Hope ministry and Missionary Elder Rick Jones at the Warsop Jamaica Mission to demonstrate our commitment to missionary work. We believe that the message of Christ is still good news for all people.

Prayer Requests

Our church members and visitors frequently bring their prayer requests to the attention of our congregation during our regular service.  We believe praying is an act of compassion; it is expressing love in a way that pleases God. So make your petitions known to us that we can bring each need before the throne of grace. We encourage you to experience the presence of God by caring enough to pray for someone in need. When you pray for someone you are giving one of the best gifts that you can give and God will bless you also. Please pray for this church also that the Holy Spirit will abide with us in our endeavor to do our Lord's will. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. - Hebrews 4:16
